Balcony and Stairway Inspections
Starting January 1, 2026, multifamily property owners with three or more units must have wooden balconies, decks, and exterior stairways inspected by licensed contractors, with inspections required every six years thereafter. The deadline, initially set for 2025, was extended to provide more time for compliance. To meet this requirement, property owners should plan inspections early, hire qualified contractors familiar with safety standards, and maintain detailed records of inspections and repairs to ensure compliance and protect against potential tenant claims.
